French full back sues former club

France full-back Mendy, 29, departed from Manchester City after the conclusion of his contract earlier this summer. Despite being acquitted of a range of rape and attempted rape charges, City allegedly ceased payment to Mendy in September 2021 following his initial charges and subsequent custody.

Notably, renowned UK sports lawyer Nick De Marco is overseeing Mendy's case, which involves a "multi-million pound claim," and the proceedings are anticipated to take place in 2024.

Mendy commenced the current season with Ligue 1 side Lorient, contributing through three substitute appearances. His transfer to Lorient occurred after his tenure at City, where he secured Premier League titles in 2018, 2019, and 2021, culminating in his final City appearance on 15 August 2021.

After spending five months in custody, Mendy was granted bail in January 2022 and faced trial for the first time in August 2022. In January, he was acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Following a retrial in July, Mendy was again cleared of charges related to rape.

Manchester City has refrained from commenting on the matter when contacted by BBC Sport.
